  Environmental Impact Statement (EIS)  
 
  DESCRIPTION  
  An EIS is a report outlining and assessing the potential environmental impacts of a development, including effects on threatened species and habitats. An EIS is a mandatory requirement for certain types of development such as Designated Development, development under Part 5 of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 (NSW) that is likely to have a significant impact on the environment, State Significant Infrastructure development or a State Significant Development. The EIS must be considered before consent or approval is granted (Part 5 Division 3 of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 (NSW)).
