GLOSSARY TERM
  Designated Development

  DESCRIPTION
A designated development is a development that is declared to be designated under the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 (NSW) and its Regulations. This commonly includes activities likely to have significant environmental impacts such as mining, waste management facilities, petroleum works and chemical industries. The procedures relating to Development Applications for these developments are stricter than usual, including requirements for an Environmental Impact Statement and public consultation. A classification as State Significant Development or State Significant Infrastructure overrides the classification as Designated Development. (section 77A of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979
(NSW)).
