CHAPTER 5

THE SUPERINTENDENT

Who is the superintendent?

'Superintendent' is the term commonly used to describe an individual or business who is given specific roles or functions under a construction contract to administer the contract.

It is not always essential to appoint a
superintendent, particularly in simple works.

Other terms may be used to describe the role, for example:

  • in the ABIC form of contract the reference is to the 'Architect'; and
  • in PC-1 the reference is to the 'Contract Administrator'.
